ABOUT ABOUT

TAHOE TOUGH MUDDERS! Looking for something to do Saturday night? We got you covered. But first, a little backstory...

In the fall of 2011, I journeyed to Lake Tahoe with a simple plan... to write a humor essay about my first Tough Mudder. I figured the story about a pain-averse-beta-male peeling his ass off the couch and tackling a Mudder would make for funny material. And... I guess I was right as that piece was featured on the cover of my local alt-weekly. But much more importantly, the experience was the start of an utterly improbable journey. And five years later, I'm returning to Lake Tahoe for a community screening of Rise of the Sufferfests, my feature documentary about the global mud run phenomenon.

In short, Rise of the Sufferfests, asks WHY?! - when the thrust of human civilization has been to make life more comfortable - are the masses suddenly paying for pain. The film explores the history of the sport, psychology behind it, personalities that drive it, and what it says about the world we're living in.

As you'll see in our official trailer, the doc features interviews with athletes and insiders from the cultish OCR community, as well as a broad range of notable experts: Morgan Spurlock, Laird Hamilton, Tim Ferriss, AJ Jacobs and Hanna Rosin, to name a few. And it follows my personal journey deep into the crucible... and fatherhood.

All that said, we really hope you'll head to Commons Beach after you're done playing in the mud for a lakeside screening of Rise of the Sufferfests. We've rented a massive inflatable screen. So round up your family, friends, fellow Mudders, blankets and beach chairs for this very special event.

(BYOB - Bring-Your-Own-Blanket/Beach Chair!)

Doors will open at 7pm, giving guests time to mix and mingle, eat, drink and be merry. We'll have music, food, beverages, and other fun surprises until sunset. That's when the real fun begins... THE MOVIE

The film will start right around 8:30.

And afterward, there will be a Q&A with some very special guests.

Wanna be a part of the fun? Of course you do!
